What to expect at The Truck Stop, Wichita’s newest food truck park | Wichita By E.B. – Wichita By E.B.

The newest food truck park has finally opened in Wichita. The Truck Stop is the largest park of its kind in the city. Owned by Willie Finley of Willie’s Wings, the park is located at 6315 E. Kellogg Dr. which is the southwest corner of Kellogg and Woodlawn.

The best way to access the Truck Stop if you’re driving on Kellogg is to take the Woodlawn exit heading eastbound and take the frontage road towards Woodlawn. The Truck Stop is just past Reddi Industries and immediately west of Starlight Motor Lodge Motel along with Woodlawn Blvd.

There you’ll find a huge lot with room for at least 13 food trucks, plenty of parking and tables for diners. One thing to note about this park compared to others is that it’s open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Finley’s goal is to always have multiple food trucks parked. By following their Facebook page, you’ll be able to see who’s there each day.

During the opening week, there was some fantastic weather and four trucks.

There was a decent lunch crowd passing through, many from the nearby businesses like Reddi Industries and car lots. It was cool to see another park in the works that’s pretty accessible to most people in the area. Even those people working downtown, should be able to get there and back in a good amount of time.

As mentioned earlier, Finley’s goal is to have consistency at the park. Diners will know what to expect each week (and weekend) as the food trucks will be signed up for whole week or weekend stretches. The idea is that food truck owners can sign up and reserve their spots in the park and have access to electricity ports depending on the package they purchase.

For the month of March, Finley is waiving the monthly rate to let truck owners give the park a try. Interested owners are encouraged to call 316-730-5659.

I look forward to the warmer weather and seeing how The Truck Stop evolves and grows. My wish is to see events there, music (should the neighborhood allow) and a more family friendly theme with things for kids to do while food is being prepared. I know there are some new trucks opening in the coming months, so perhaps this will be a good space for them to get their name out.
